Boeing and Korean Air Lines officials met Monday at the Paris Air Show to sign a
Memorandum of Understanding confirming plans by the carrier to add two new
747-400ER (extended range) Freighters and seven new 777s in a multi-year fleet
expansion beginning in 2004. "The 777 aircraft has proven to be extremely
cost-efficient and effective for operation on long-haul flights," said Yang Ho
Cho, Korean Air Lines chairman and CEO. "It is anticipated that the new aircraft
additions will enhance service, improve operational efficiency, and also
strengthen competitiveness for Korean Air." Korean Air was a launch customer for
two 777 models and recently took delivery of its first 747-400ER freighter.
Commercial Airplanes President and CEO Alan Mulally called Korean Air "an
integral player in the success of the 747 and 777." A final agreement is
expected to be signed in the next few weeks.
